First off i did some extensive searching. One of my biggest issues was cleaning the mouth piece that gets gunk'd up with coffee after a certain time. the more popular models like the Contigo AUTOSEAL Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler, 16 Ounces, Black have this issue where you cannot take it apart and even handwashing wont help.So for me i've thrown out several cheaper travel mugs so i decided to invest into the Zojirushi models. NOW to be clear the other versions DO NOT have a dissembling mouth piece. yes they are cheaper but this new model is the only one that comes apart in this style.So here are the pluses and minuses.+ Slim. fits easily into my german car cup holder (BMW) you know how small these german car companies make them.+ Open button. Super convenient for one handed operation.+ Easy to Clean. again the stopper comes apart. i rinse and let it air dry. i also use a bottle brush to keep my investment clean OXO Good Grips Bottle Brush+ Sexy. It's a sleek dark blue. I had the other color as well but found that too feminine so i did return that. I've gotten compliments for how stylish and functional it is. But the price is a little like - 'oh' - check ebay+ Coffee was still hot after a few hours. Okay im used to it cooling down not burning my mouth every time i go for a slip so i'll have to get used to this!+ Volume. 2 cups of coffee worth - actually it looks like it holds more unless my french press robbed me of some water/coffee.- Price. It's expensive. IT's too bad we couldn't order from Japan Amazon because it goes way cheaper and they have BLACK!- No way to brew loose leaf tea in there. I knew that going in but it still is a bit of a bummer. I have tried mugs/tumblers from Starbucks, Contigo, Klean Kanteen (insulated model), Zojirushi (other models). They failed to keep the beverage hot or cold, were leaking, or were impossible to wash thoroughly (yuck).This mug is perfect in every aspect.1. The insulation is great. On that note, be careful: the beverage will be piping hot or ice cold.2. The stainless steel is of high quality.3. The drinking spout is well designed and can be completely and easily taken apart for thorough washing - Amazon does not show this, but the manufacturer's website (http://www.zojirushi.com/products/smkhe) does.4. No leaks - I can put this in my purse or backpack without any worries.5. It looks beautiful.I have these in both colors and love them both. The mug comes with an English instruction booklet(my other gold color one, purchased in Japan, did not). At about $40 - Amazon's price seems to fluctuate - it is pricey, but definitely worth it. Right now, 12oz and 16 oz are the only sizes Zojirushi makes.

These really are the business. Like many things designed by and for Japanese, the elegence, simplicity and engineering that goes into these basically lets you take for granted that it is a mug that you can fill and use (spill free) and never have to worry about it. It's almost anti-climatic when you open the package and take it out and use it for the first time. It's elegent. It's perfect. And you kind of forget what it is like having to worry about spilling your coffee even using a travel mug (if you use one frequently you know what i mean).Yes, it's a travel mug. But if you frequently use a travel mug, you know what I mean when I say you never really feel 100% comfortable using one. This one kind of feels like it is plastic coating placed over the body, but it hasn't, it just has a really smooth finish placed on the steel (you will look for the tel-tale film joins on the bottom of the mug and be dissapointed you can't find any!)It really is a worry free mug. It's just so simple. You can lock, open and close the lid one handed. The lid/top flips open (slow-spring assisted) and there is what can best be described as a mouthpiece, that means NO SPILLS when you drink from the flask (let's face it, we've all spilled a coffee from a travel mug that is "spill proof" trying to access the last 3 mouthfulls of coffee from the mug!).I'm not joking, the only way you are going to spill coffee from this is if you're drinking from it and someone happens to say "Hey, youur travel mug is rubbish! You should buy a Thermos/Contigo/Starbucks brand mug!" and you either laugh and spray coffee in their face, or you are so fast to put them right that you spray coffee from your mouth and down your front as you shout "LIES!".The entire top/lid dissasmbles for washing to keep things spick-and-span, no possibility of it getting cruddy.The materials feel top class. It's light. It easily takes a "standard" "large" mug of coffee. it is EXACTLY the same size (width and height) as a 500ml Bottle of Coke (so you know it will fit into any cupholder, anywhere) and has a stainless steel inside and outside finish (stainless inside means no plastic taste).The vaccum tube is excellent, with it being filled with boiling water for 2 hours and the outside remaining cold to touch and the insides remaining mouth scalding hot. One of my tips is to remember that the contents will stay at temp for a long time, so fill it at drinking temp after filling it and emptying it with hot, tap water.It has a very detailed set of instructions (one in english and one in japanese) that covers everything. From what not to do, to what you should do, to how everything dissassembles. Of course I just put all this straight in the bin and started using it, trusting to it being so simple to use/figure out, that I wouldn't have any problems. And i haven't.Buy one or several of these and you won't need anything else for a very, very long time. I'll do a video review of these and place them on youtube under the name zero2espect at some point in the near future.
