Most important: Though nothing is written on that here or on the bags' package, these bags may be sealed by ironing over their open side. Put the iron on the high-temperature setting.These bags are large enough to allow for filling them with one to few teaspoons of tea without spilling the tea around. In addition, the size allows for water to sift through the bags unimpeded. We have done blind A/B tests filling a bag and our standard strainer with the same amount of tea, putting those into identical containers, pouring simultaneously the same amount of water, etc. We could not detect a difference between the colors of the brews. The tastes were impossible to distinguish except for one subtlety. The bags seem to take out the far-out bitter end of the flavor spectrum that is present there as just a hint for the strainer. Possibly this subtle effect is associated with some heavier particles in the tea.The bags lack a string but their size makes it easy to fish them out.

These are very large filter pouches. I take them to work with enough tea inside to make a 16 oz beverage. They're very long (meant to be used with a filter stick) so I fold the top down and staple it - not too kosher, I know, but works great for taking to work! Tea leaves tend to swell up when steeped and these filters are large enough to allow for that expansion. And 100 for $5! A good deal.

JAN 2011:I compared these to T-SAC (similar).. I am picky about filter taste (because I believe the taste could also be a health concern).. These filters have less paper taste than anything else I have tried.. Paper taste is most noticeable when brewing something delicate like green tea (while coffee or black tea is less affected).. The only annoying thing is about 1/4 of the filters go on the trash same problem with several new packages) because there are little places where the seam is not sealed (in the corners), and coffee grounds get out (only a concern for ground tea/coffee, not for 3 leafs and a bud as many teas are).. I fond the large size perfect for making a cup of coffee.. These are not reusable (not as bad as TP, but they get soft in that direction after use.. probably the price we pay for using a natural material to get rid of the paper taste).AUG 2010:I consider myself a coffee and tea snob (I have tried many gadgets and brewing methods).. The main thing is to get good tea or coffee from the start.. And manual control with a simple brew method works best (for one or 2).I believe these filters are the ultimate for convenience at work or vacation, when you want to drink your own coffee or tea stash (I use them at home too, pending installing the espresso machine someday).. Nothing breakable, light weight for travel.. Although I had to throw out my tea one time airport security handled my tea with dirty gloves on (sometimes you cant win). For packing ahead of time fill the little bags (if I anticipate not having a teaspoon), I put all in between a fold of tin foil (to protect from light, and plastic), then put the batch in a zip lock).. Dont mix coffee and tea in the same ziplock..Am using the size that is about 6" long, for one cup at a time.. I have tried several brands of coffee filters in a pour yourself coffee dripper, and all but one had a very noticeable paper taste (and these did not have this problem.. and I dont have to wash out the dripper when done either). Although for coffee, I believe the thicker coffee filters absorb more coffee oils (for people trying to avoid the oil for cholesterol reasons)..Coffee or tea may float out of the filter if you are careless (and some of these tear out.. maybe 1 of 5.. little bit of a pain.. I think some are defective.. at least in my 100 carton.. almost gave 4 starrs for this complaint).. I spoon in coffee, then dunk it deep enough to get the filter wet and drop it over the side of the cup (to close the top.. simple)..bobbler
