Except for those with scale detection, the design of espresso machines as well as most coffee makers does not allow us to see how well or poorly a chemical descaling agent really works as we cannot see the scale buildup, etc. That said, I think that I have decent indirect evidence that this products works as advertised based upon using the cleaning solution flushed through my espresso machine to clean and brighten other stainless steel kitchen items.As others have noted, a larger container such as this is far more cost-effective than purchasing pre-measured envelopes of the same product at just under $0.34 per ounce v. $1.57 an ounce for a 4-pack of envelopes. Additionally, this makes it easier to get portions correct if your tank does not hold 32 ounces or a multiple thereof and further allows less frequent ordering and possible shipping charges.This is how I am using this product for my semi-automatic espresso machine which is basically per manufacturer's instructions:Dissolve about 1 ounce for every 32 ounces of tepid water and allow this to sit until all powder appears dissolved which will take a bit of time, even with periodic stirring.Do not allow the espresso machine to heat and turn off the machine between draws.Draw approximately 1 cup of water through the steam spout, discarding the first cup as that probably is plain water. Turn off the machine and wait 10-15 minutes then draw another cup and continue with this cycle until the tank is emptied. Pour this and all future draws into other stainless steel cookware, or tools for additional cleaning. I use the collected descaling water for extra cleaning of my steaming pitcher, a tea ball, cookware, etc., and allow about 10-15 minutes of soak. I have seen some improvement in cleaning out some of the hard to reach or clean areas and just general brightening of the surface.After emptying the tank then flush the system per manufacturer's instructions.This review is for Urnex Dezcal Activated Scale Remover, 35.27-Ounces.

It cost me what 6 packs wouldve cost at my local Saeco dealer. With this, I am able to clean my maching more often without it killing my coffee budget. My machine has always cleaned with this and now, with this much quantity, I can descale everything to my hearts desire!!! We have 2 Saeco superautomaticas, plus humidifiers which can use this as well.Just remember to use the proper amount. Overkill on anything does more harm than good so dont abuse it.

I had been descaling with other descalers for years from local stores. I got ahold of these and gave 'em a try and found that they actually work markedly better. I had descaled a tea-kettle several times and the element remained burned-looking and still had spots. I attributed it to age and thought nothing of it. I used this one and, suddenly, the coil was shiny chrome again and most of the spots had disappeared. Also, this was the first time a descaling actually resulted in visible flakes coming out with the dirty water (both in my espresso machine and my kettle). I will never try another brand.
