Thoughtful thrifty shopper
Melitta and other brand-name natural brown paper cone filters can be expensive over time, especially when buying them at your local stores, and how different can they be? As it turns out, not much if any that I can see. For $14 dollars and change, I have 800 filters that have given me a great cup of coffee everyday without any issues. When I run out of these filters in a couple of years, I'll order more.

When Trader Joe's yet again raised their price on this type of unbleached cone-type filter -- which had long been the best buy vs. Kroger, et al -- I looked on Amazon for a similar but less expensive alternative. The price of this brand was right and the quality is good. I will note that the filters are lighter weight than any others I have used and I was concerned from the get-go that they would tease apart once water was poured into them and I'd end up with coffee grounds in the cup (bleh). But after a few months, I am pleased to report they have yet to tear or leak. So all in all, a good value. One other note is that they arrived in more packaging than I could have imagined. I am guessing the slotted paperboard container the individual packs came in makes them ready for in-store on-shelf stocking. But it's a space- and tree-waster for home use, at least for mine, and I hope Amazon will find a way to reduce this if they haven't already.

I'm not sure if I got a case full of faulty filters or what, but I've opened ALL 8 bags of filters and tried at least 3 filters per package. Every single filter separated at the bottom seam and spilled out grounds. I even tried several filters with just water, those separated also. Lot # 13069 5 11430 in case anyone is curious.
