I prefer the medium to the small if you are torn between the two. The small are also about twice the price for no apparent reason. The medium are better anyhow because the opening is much wider. I find it difficult to spoon tea into the small bags without spilling because the smalls are very slim. The one negative I would say is if you squeeze out the liquid after steeping, they do break easily so be careful to apply pressure sparingly. I don't use these filters every day, because they are rather wasteful compared to the many effective re-usable alternatives. Tea brews best when it has plenty of room to expand, so I don't like closed mesh balls or clamping tea spoons. I normally use one of those open-basket strainers that sits in my mug. However, these are great for travel, and also for steeping larger amounts in a tea pot (if you don't want loose leaves in your pot). It's cleverly shaped like an envelope with a long top piece, which drapes over the top of your mug or outside the lid of your teapot. Or that piece could be folded over and closed with a clip or even a staple attached to a string. This can also be used as an herb sachet. A very useful item.
