You get a new Mr Coffee machine and use the generic filters. Now, that shold work, right? It does, but then the generic filters flop and the coffee grinds end up in your husband's morning coffee mug! So, I bought a box of Mr. Coffee filters and now more floppy filters. That led me to buy a CASE of them! Sometimes there's a reason for OEM!

My parents bought their first Mr. Coffee back in the 1970's. It didn't have a timer, you had to shut it off manually, but it managed to brew coffee without dumping grounds into the pot. Unfortunately after 40 years of engineering and redesign, it seems harder and harder to keep the grounds in the filter.=== The Good Stuff ===* The Mr. Coffee filters are definitely better than the el-cheapo filters that you can buy in any large discount store. They are less likely to "collapse", whereby the grounds overflow the sides of the filter and flow into the pot.* Mr. Coffee filters also seem to allow liquid to flow through at faster rate, which limits the potential for overflowing the filter, something that one of our coffee makers does on a regular basis with bargain filters.=== The Not-So-Good Stuff ===* While they are better, these filters are still not perfect. Occasionally they will collapse, allowing grounds to escape. The solution is to keep the gold filter in the basket and place the filter in the gold basket. This allows the gold filter basket to capture any wayward grounds. Unfortunately this is the problem I was trying to solve by buying the Mr. Coffee filters.=== Summary ===These filters definitely perform better than the bargain filters from Wally's, but are still not foolproof. However, while the Mr. Coffee filters are roughly three times more expensive, we are still talking about a couple bucks a year total. At that price, it is worth purchasing these even for a marginal improvement.
