I like the idea of a sustainable source filter even if it is only 60% bamboo, better than 0%. The coffee tastes just as good or better as with other non-bleached filters.

I first purchased these unknowingly at the local supermarket, did not even see "Bamboo" until after I made a cup of coffee and noticed how much quicker it got the job done. Then I checked the box to see what was different. Bamboo! Definitely superior! Perhaps paper swells more and closes down the pores. For certain the bamboo remains porous longer and passes the coffee through faster, with less "choking" near the end. The more even speed of filtering means better tasting coffee, the paper filters slow near the end and over soak the grounds at the point where you are getting more of the bitter taste and less of the aromatics and caffeine.Since then (almost a year) I've purchased all the bamboo filters available at that store and in a nearby town. Since they haven't restocked, I'm on the 'net looking for a source. I'll never go back to plain paper. By the way, I've used the more expensive Melita brand for many years because even their paper filters do a better (quicker) job of filtering than the cheaper brands.For those not used to the shape, you are supposed to fold that edge seam under, that keeps it from ever separating and makes it fit perfectly into the Melita filter basket - directions on every box for years.Some have mentioned "sustainable". I live in a rural area, trees grow rapidly and are the devil to keep out of the fields. Paper is made from trees, so it IS sustainable.

I ordered these because they are bamboo and I am health conscious. When I opened the box it was a moment of WTF. These thing are flat with a big seam down the middle of them. I have a little, 4-cup Mr. Coffee. These things are a bugger to work with. They don't fit very well and it takes a little work to make sure the side is not going to fall. But hey, they're bamboo and couldn't find any in the store.
